FoodCourt Privacy Policy

Overview

FoodCourt (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a dish-rating app that helps you discover great food through friends’ recommendations. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Information We Collect

Account Information

• Apple ID: When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID identifier and, if you choose to share it, your email address
• Username & Display Name: The profile name you create in the app
• Profile Photo: Optional avatar you may upload

User-Generated Content

• Verdicts: Your dish ratings, notes, and photos
• Meals: Groups of ratings from a single restaurant visit, including shared-meal invitations and participation
• Follows: The users you choose to follow

Location Data

• Device Location: When you grant permission, we use your location to show nearby restaurants
• Location is accessed while the app is in use. Coordinates are sent to our service to find nearby restaurants and the appropriate restaurant branch. Your chosen city is saved with your profile.
• Analytics may include an approximate location inferred from your internet connection's IP address.

Contacts

Contact matching is disabled in version 1.1. In that version, FoodCourt does not request access to your address book or upload contacts for matching. You can find judges by username or share an invitation.

Menu Photo Scanning (Optional)

When you scan a menu, FoodCourt uploads your selected photos to our service and sends them to Anthropic’s Claude to extract dish names, descriptions, and prices. The extracted information is used to add menu items to FoodCourt. Select menu photos without personal information.

In version 1.1, we ask for your confirmation before each upload. Choosing Cancel keeps the selected photos on your device.

Analytics & Diagnostics

We use two third-party services to understand how the app is used and to keep it stable:

• PostHog (product analytics): We collect app usage events (such as features used, ratings submitted, and menu searches that returned no results, including their search text) tied to a pseudonymous account identifier so we can understand and improve the product. Session replay is disabled in version 1.1. Earlier versions may record in-app session replays of how the interface is used, with sensitive input masked, to diagnose usability problems.
• Sentry (crash and performance monitoring): We collect crash reports and performance data (e.g., app hangs, slow screens) to fix bugs. We do not deliberately attach FoodCourt profile IDs to Sentry reports. Sentry assigns an installation identifier, which can associate reports from the same app installation.
• Service diagnostics: Errors reported to our own service can include your account identifier, app version, and error details to help investigate problems.
• Notifications: If you enable push notifications, we store your device's push token and notification preferences to deliver updates to that device.

We do notuse this data for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

How We Use Your Information

• Display your profile and verdicts to other users (based on your visibility settings)
• Show you verdicts from users you follow
• Find restaurants and dishes near you
• Improve the app experience
• Respond to support requests

Data Storage

Your data is stored securely on Supabase, a cloud database provider with servers in the United States. Data is protected by:

• Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS)
• Row-level security policies
• Secure authentication via Apple Sign-In

Data Sharing

We do not:

• Sell your personal information
• Share your data with advertisers
• Use your data for targeted advertising

We may share data only:

• With service providers necessary to operate the app (Supabase, Apple, PostHog, Sentry, Google for restaurant search, and Anthropic for menu photo scanning)
• If required by law or legal process

Your Privacy Controls

Verdict Visibility

You control who sees each verdict:

• Public: Visible to all users
• Followers: Visible to you and users who follow you
• Private: Visible only to you

Account Deletion

You can delete your FoodCourt account directly in the app: Profile → Settings (gear icon) → Data & Privacy → Delete Account.

If FoodCourt asks you to disconnect Apple after confirming your account deletion, open your iPhone's Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple → FoodCourt, then tap Delete. Apple's instructions explain this additional step.

Children’s Privacy

FoodCourt is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by other means.
